Both are awful, though i find spitting food myself on somebody else and trying not to adknowledge it is a tad more embarrasing

I'm one of those socially awkward people who, if I get spat on accidentally, will pretend to have an itchy nose or wait a good 30 seconds and then wipe my face as if I just happen to be doing it, rather than acknowledge what we both know just happened.

It's a bit of an art form really, I'll often just not react and then slyly wipe it away when the other person's not paying attention. Anything to avoid added awkwardness
