We've been lied to. They scripted and filmed the whole thing last year and only show up for the entrance and evictions to carry on the pretence!!

The reason they say 2013 is that they were hidden away for days before the launch show so it is an easy mistake to make. They are probably in hiding since before the end of the year. That's my theory anyway x
