Default 7/7 bombings

This is a bit of a random thread it just came on my mind

What were you doing at the time? How did you find out, and what was your reaction

I wasn't impacted much as I would be now due to being young but it was still really shocking.. I just remember going home from school early and watching it all on the news and being scared

We had a charity walk on at school and we all dressed up as some kind of sports person and most of us were just sat around doing nothing on the fields all day and one of the teachers told us all and it was basically the only conversation going round school because people were like "omfg i got a relative in London i hope their ok" even though they were nowhere near the bombings, was really annoying

Honestly didn't impact on me at all, don't remember where I was on that day or feeling anything about it at all, I think because it wasn't as visually shocking as 9/11 and nobody died did they? I honestly don't remember, London seems like an alien place to me, I don't feel like I live in the same country as people who live in London

Edit: Okay that was shockingly ignorant of me, 52 people died apparently... I honestly don't remember, I couldn't have even told you which year it happened, just that it was the 7th of July some time in the 2000s...

I was at work, it was really shocking to later find out one of the bombers lived on the same road in Leeds I had once...
That sent chills,

I think there was an attack on the 22nd that was thwarted, might have been what you was thinking of

I think I was on here when the news broke. I had the telly on.

It was the day after it was announced that London had won the Olympics iirc

I remember my dad phoning me for something and telling him 'that london had been bombed', literally minutes after it broke.

EDIT: I wasn't on here when it broke because it happened in 2005. I was on my computer though

Was in School during break time. Rumours started going around and then a Teacher confirmed it to us. Was absolute chaos at the time and no one even bothered going to lesson when the bell rang. Took a good 30mins or so for Teachers to calm the situation, get people off phones and move everyone back in.

There was some dickhead too who was spreading rumours and every other minute she came up with a new place that got bombed, which everyone was believing and worrying about as some stated places were close to where they lived.

Mad times man.

Ahh that sounds familiar! Apologies to anyone I've offended, genuinely didn't realise people had died :/

I remember all the confusion and I phoned a couple of mates that lived in London too make sure they were fine, because it was pretty widespread.

True that

Wow I feel really ****ty, all these years I guess I just thought the 7/7 bombings were a botched attempt that caused a bit of damage and some people were injured but nobody died :/

Don't remember 9/11 in the slightest. I was like 8 and probably gave zero ****s at the time. I was probably telling mum to put it on Cartoons.

Yeah same here, I think because 9/11 was so visually shocking, the planes striking the towers and the towers collapsing are (unfortunately) iconic images that will never be forgotten; 7/7 doesn't really have a defining image other than the twisted wreck of the top deck of that bus... that's the only thing I can remember about 7/7, and even then not particularly clearly.

I remember coming home and asking why wasn't My Parents Are Aliens on TV and then realising my mum was in floods of tears because she thought we were about to see World War III and my brother would be drafted lol

Nah I know that, I'm not confusing it with that, I think I'm confusing it with the thing Chewy mentioned. I remember the Glasgow airport one well (John Smeaton!!!!!!) 'cause we were going on holiday the next day flying from Glasgow airport and my mum was convinced we weren't going to be able to get away; the whole check in bit smelled like a barbecue, honestly, it was like being in someone's back garden

I was on holiday, in a caravan in Bournmouth, just watching the TV when the news came on.

It's weird isn't it? I can't believe that for the last 8 years I've been assuming it was this amateur terrorist attack that barely did anything but 52 people died... I feel a bit horrible for not knowing
