Default I of all people got scammed on my mobile

Today, I with 3 other people from our congregation took a number of American University students to York.

I got separated and was using the facilities in a pub. I then heard my phone ring once. Thinking that someone from our lot was trying to call me on their mobile, I called the missed call only to find it was a private discrete service, and that by ringing it I was charged £2.00. I contacted my service provider and they have received other complaints, I I need to raise this complaint with OFCom.

I have been advised that if you find you have a missed call and the number starts 070, then this may be one of those scams

I can not believe I got caught out.

Sorry to hear that Sticks. I'm pretty sure (but not certain) that all UK mobiles either start with 077, 078 or 079. Something to remember, if is indeed true

Sorry to hear that Sticks.
I've had texts saying something random like "Can't believe what Luke did!" (Obviously written in text speech) and when you reply to ask who it is, it takes all your credit off your phone. I didn't reply, though I heard about it being a scam a couple of weeks later.

That's a shame.

Thanks for the warning though! I do get random texts now and again but none of them have been a scam - as of yet. I'll be a lot more aware now.

I opened this thread, because I got scammed yesterday, and I also can't believe that it happened to me. I'm very, very careful with stuff, but I got conned into paying for software to unlock my new phone and after paying £4.95 I discovered that I only got the software, which is free to get anywhere, and that the "credits" weren't included. Needless to say, I didn't rush to buy their "credits".

I've put it down to experience and written off the fiver. Not that I'm saying it's ok to scam people for a fiver, but it's just as well it wasn't a huge sum of money as I can ill-afford to be getting ripped off.

However, I'm now five quid poorer and feel like a bit of a tosser.
