She was sadly blind in her last years
[Townsend suffered from diabetes for many years, as a result of which she was registered blind in 2001] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sue_Townsend On Radio 5 debate on her 9AM - 10AM they said Adrian Mole should be part of course work for kids that age. She wrote that for adults when it first came out
