Default so ill and in pain :( help

I've had sore tonsils before but nowhere near as bad as this, it's a struggle to eat, drink, anything that includes swallowing (no sexual jokes plz)

I've been doing the salt water thing since yesterday and it hasn't helped, I've been awake almost all night because the pain from swallowing kept waking me up and I have a fever, headache and weakness. The back of my mouth near the tonsils is so red and inflammed I even had to take the day off work due to how bad it is

Any suggestions/help/remedies will be greatly appreciated

Sucking chocolate always helped when I had tonsilitus. I used to get it pretty much every month when I was younger. The chocolate coats your throat so the pain doesnt seem as bad.

Failing that, codeine.

You'll need antibiotics from the sound of it, so it's a docs appointment you need.

Ice cream or ice lollies might soothe it for a bit?

Yeah antibiotics help quite quickly, or they do if your body isnt used to them like mine got. 2 days or so and the swelling goes way down.

Painkiller, a good one.

Would be best if you had some in the house already..because getting it from a chemist you arent going to get a very high dose without a perscription. I think solpadeine has about 5mg or something in it.

Edit. Just realised chemists wont be open anyway, today or tomorrow

Docs wouldnt do that to me..despite me having problems literally every month from being about 12 to 17. They said I would probably grow out of it by 18...to be fair they were right, but if they had just taken them out I wouldnt have had to go through 5 years of pain

I was going to suggest the salt gargle but you have already tried that.

Best go to the doc and get some antibiotics to clear that up they will give you some painkillers too.

Until you can get to the docs either tomorrow or Tuesday then you can either crush up some paracetamol or use a dissolvable one and gargle that.

Try and find a local walk in centre don't suffer until Tuesday.
In the meantime, pretty much what has been said, ice cream and some co- codemol or similar.

Hope you feel better soon

My advice? Don't take any pills suggested by forum members especially codeine (tut tut Vicky) Codeine is highly addictive and even in small doses if you have never taken it before you will still feel that nice chilled feeling you get from a higher dose.

I do love a bit of codeine though
