Default England - my 2 cents post mortem

1
Roy Hodgson is very experienced but we need a modern Lowe or Mourinho type with greater tactical acumen. I get impression RH is a bit of an old school avuncular sports teacher type with a whistle: good at man management e.g. patting his players's bottom and reassuring Rooney that he still believes in him, but I don't think he's tactically up there with the most cunning or strategically astute. I like the fact the FA went with a 'smart academic man' like Roy rather than just any old big name ex-pro, but I think more types of people should manage England. When I look at the English managers Big Sam Allydyce, Sam Pardew, compared to Mourinho, Wenger and Ponchettino it's scary. Even the foreign pundits are better.

2
Big name players like Gerrard and Rooney becoming 'undroppable' maybe due to sponsors or FA pressure. England need leadership and not sure where it will come from for 2016. We need a new young Turk with ideas who can lead vocally and by example.Yes, I know Gerrard almost lifted the EPL this year and led Liverpool to 2 CL finals included single handled heroics in Instabul but that was years ago. He doesn't seem inspirational in press conferences to me and I suspect he's so so in team talks now. I was sick of players defending Rooney in press conferences. Obviously player harmony is important but when Spain lost opener against the Swiss 4 years ago the players publially berated each other constructively and we all know what happened next. Rooney needed to feel that his place was under threat and I think deep down he may have been a little bit worried but knew Uncle Roy was never going to drop him

3
Have no issue with no of foreigners in EPL but why are they the big names in teams? We should be producing superstars I've noticed several of the players play in PL teams where the key positions and roles and star players are foreign (eg. goal keeper, play makers, penalty takers etc). Why does the biggest star at Anfield have to be Suarez? Why are Man City's star men the likes of Aguero, Navas and Negredo? Why can't our players have flair and creativity? It's sad that Millners have to look on in awe at the Aguero. It should be the other way round. Costa Rica and Uruguay are small nations so there's no excuse.

4
English players have real issues keeping hold of the ball and keeping possession. I get impression English coaches encourage a 'hoof the ball away as quick as possible' mentality on young kids when we need to encourage love of possession and a bit of arrogant flair

5
For me there are too many England team only playing in EPL. Only goalie GK Forster plays outside of EPL...for Celtic. This may sound weird as it's the 'obvious' big league for English players but several foreign players play in the EPL despite coming from nations with strong leagues (eg Germans @ Arsenal Mertsecker, Ozil, Podolski despite there being a strong Bundesliga e.g a league that had 2 finalists in 2013 CL, Spaniards playing in EPL e.g Negredo, Navas, Carzola, Arteta). Where's the ambition to play in La Liga. Bale knew he was never going to win anything internationally with Wales, so hot footed it to Real Madrid to win Copa Del Reys and CLs. I know learning a foreign language, culture and uprooting is scary but foreign players stay in a country for 3 seasons and often move on eg Ronaldo from home country Porto to Man U to Real Madrid. Some young English players who maybe weren't getting into their squads such as Arsenal or Man City could have gone to somewhere like Atletico Madrid, Seville or even AZ Alkmaar and gained some valuable CL or Europa experience rather than languishing in reserves playing against Shrewsbury on a wet windy waterlogged night in January. Arsena's Costa Rica star Campbell has benefited when he played for Olympiacos and look at him now.

I think we just needs to come to terms that we aren't as good as other countries, its as simple as that.

Pretty much bollox on every point

My summary: We got beat by two good teams (both above us in the Fifa rankings) it happens.

We wasn't far off and can learn lessons going forward from this, it's a fairly young squad that will be better for the experience.

It's disappointing but 16 countries have to go out at this stage, this time around it just happened to be us.

Life goes on

Yep, you stick your mediocrity. I want to settle for something a bit better than England being average with problems to solve.

Post mortem is simple really.

Woy is tactically inept, we stood no chance.
