Or maybe James felt genuinely aggreived about Gary demanding he drop everything to help him with his cases after James had explained that he wanted a drink. There are two sides to every story after all.

He is both fake and arrogant. Arrogant enough to think that he can change popular opinion of Gary and that if he belittles Gary enough people will start to see him the way James wants them to see him.

You think he's saying all those things because he wants people to believe it?.. Do you really think this show means that much to these people? they'll all come out of there, take their money and disappear back to where they came from.
I have a feeling no matter what James did, if he stopped saying how he felt about Gary, he'd be considered fake and a game player, but even though he's still saying how he feels about him, even though he had the chance to to be fake and stop, he's still being labelled as fake, the guy can't win.
