Default Thread Post Restrictions

Ok tonight has really brought me to the boil of pointless threads. I feel that these threads are mostly being made by 'members' with one post star.

I feel there should be thread starting restrictions for these posters...or more adequate warnings handed out.

Certain members are starting threads with no substance or point..and I'd like some backing for this idea.

Ryan... you are wasting your time. This has all been done and said over and over. The best thing to do is respond to the sense and ignore the shiite... Works for me.. even when it's 90% shiite

It's not going to happen, handing warnings out like sweets won't work. The best thing that can be done is for the mods to tell the members about it and if they persist then that's when something should be done about it. Or even the members, ''kindly'' telling the new members about it, some members shout at the new members when they don't know any better.

Also, as for the ''substance and point'', that's only your opinion, others may think they do infact have a point so i don't think it would be fair to hand out warnings to people who the mods think or other members think have made a pointless thread, spamming yeah but not knowing no better. Especially when some members are 11, 12? I wrote like a ****** untill about 14 and still do some times, and i know if someone told me my thread was pointless for that or handed me a warning then i wouldn't think it was exactly fair.

I think people should just chill out more and realise it's going to happen and let the mods sort it out as they're the only ones with the powers to edit, delete and merge.

As Stropz said, just ingore the threads you feel are pointless and post in the ones you think aren't. Works for me.

Oh come on, just give people more of a chance and let the mods deal with it, it saves you stress and it saves the new members seeing these threads and getting offended.

I agree that newer members tend to post more ''insulting'' posts and obviously i don't agree with that but the ''pointless' threads... who are we to say what's pointless and what isn't?

I know exactly what you're saying but that doesn't mean warnings should be handed out and ''posting restricitions''... i'd hate to start a thread and have to read to ensure i've met the ''posting restrictions'', it would p!ss me off and i think i'd not want to post as much.

The thread in the BB8 forum about ''BB is panicing'' and you posted your ''why post this thread?'' comment weren't exactly productive was it, you asking that question was more pointless than anything and it would probably lead to an argument. Plus, i was speaking to people about BB8 today and they didn't even know it was starting so that thread wasn't pointless as it is true what he said and people may want to discuss that, i was actually going to reply to it then decided not to because i'd have not concentrated on the original topic as i'd have replied to your post instead.

Razmataz, Wait until Big Brother 8 is in full swing

There will be new members who haven't got a clue

New posts, New topics, All kinds of mess!!

But it is not a problem, unless you want it to be

The correct judgement will be made by those who run the forum and moderate it. But it will be a task.

The word's "Team Effort", is what it is all about really.....

I am sure you can (tip-a-wink) to anyone who you think is messing things up, by in-experience.

Politely, of course

I think people just need to think more before posting, take a look at the threads already on the first couple of pages before starting new threads, I think some of the new members just lack the common sense or are too lazy to bother reading other threads.

Warning them for doing it is a bit extreme, I guess you just have to report it to a mod and if they see it fit to merge or just lock it then that's the end of it.

There was a time where I did respond to those pointless threads but I prefer to just hold back now and let the mods try and sort things out even though that's becoming an ever increasing tough job with the sheer number of these threads being started and perhaps not enough mods to handle it.

Wouldn't deleting the pointless threads off the forum be easier?

We were all new once.

Think about it!

When you first joined would you have liked not being able to start new threads?

I remember when I was new and I didn't need to start any new threads, as there was plenty available for myself to fit right into

I don't mean 'post restrictions' I mean actually being able to start a thread...because it's the pointless repeated threads more than anything.

Theres a search feature where posters can check if whatever they are posting has been posted before so why do they do it.

I think it's because the rules arn't imposed when they first join up. Maybe a screen flashing up after signing up would stop this.

Looking through old topics takes time Ruth.El

Most won't bother and choose to make a new one anyway, even if there are other similars or exacts about.

I mean the same thing. I had been on forums before so I knew what to do. I looked around a bit got the hang of things. I posted in a few existing threads and then started my own. It's why you join.

Saying you can start a new thread because you might get it wrong is taking away peoples freedoms. We all learn by our mistakes. All that will happen is the newbies will post all over the place to get there post count so they can start threads. And what about there right to start a hello thread in the Lobby?

To be honest there are problems with the site search. It is not perfect and sometimes fails to find posts or topics.

It needs fixing but it all takes time and James who does most of this work has a life too.

Do you know what - I am fed up to the back teeth at being constantly told what new members should and should not be allowed to do, what MODS should and should not be doing with regards to issues.

This site is open to everyone, if they think they have a valid point to make they are entitled to make it by opening a thread, just because you dont think it is or has a point doesnt make it rubbish. We will remove threads, close threads, as WE see fit, not as we are dictated to.

As for one star posters, I have never heard such obvious attempts at being superior. Every member is equal regardless of post count.

Right, Having been on the bb8 pages tonight I can see what you mean. I'm the worse offender for tonight and maybe I shouldn't have made threads like ''when do the housemated appear on the screen' and ''eye report''! However, I hate the way that Razmataz has patronised one star members as if they are lower than him and that he has a right to decide what thread's right or wrong. As sunny said, this site is open to everyone and maybe some people do feel that their threads are purposefull when others don't. It has also been suggested elsewhere in the forum that threads have been openned for post hikes or something. Anyway, I feel younger members can feel intimidated by this and the best thing to do is reply to threads that you personally feel are purposeful and ignore the ones you don't. I'm quite new, and I know it takes a while to get used to the forum so be patient with new members.
