Default teeth grinding/swollen teeth? cure?

ive been grinding my teeth it seems without realising and chewing gum too much
its caused swelling inside the side of my mouth by the back of my teeth on both sides
this has caused a knock on effect with my sinuses
ive got a mouth guard now to stop it happening when i sleep and no more chewing gum
does anyone have any experience of this or any other advice ?
cheers
