Default Actor Richard Kiel [Jaws in the 007 Films] Dies ages 74

Richard Kiel, the actor who played iconic James Bond baddie Jaws, has died aged 74, according to reports.

He became famous for his role as the metal-toothed hitman alongside Roger Moore's Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

Sir Roger posted a message on Twitter saying: "I am totally distraught to learn of my dear friend Richard Kiel's passing. We were on a radio programme together just a week ago. Distraught."

Kiel died at Saint Agnes Medical Centre, Fresno, California, hospital spokeswoman Kelley Sanchez said.

She did not reveal any further details on the cause of his death.

"He was a very loyal friend and client for over 35 years, a terrific husband and father, and was not only a giant actor but a giant man," said Steve Stevens, Kiel's agent.

Stevens said Kiel had taken a step back from acting after he was involved in a truck accident several years ago and was faced with walking difficulties.

Kiel, who measured a giant 7ft 2in (2.13m) tall, also starred with Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore.

Born in Detroit, the actor began appearing in TV shows and films in the 1960s, debuting in an episode of the Western series Laramie.

He published an autobiography in 2002 titled Making It Big In The Movies.
