If the kid genuinely things that Gemma died because her character in a Tv show dies, then the kid is either thick or a born attention seeker.. I'd say a little of both

If the kid could differentiate between the two she wouldn't have struggled believing Gemma was alive.

I watched Hollyoaks when I was 8 and Carmel was one of my favourite characters and I am not thick.

The girl is 8 and honestly in a world where 12 year olds are having babies I think the fact a little girl got upset because she thought a person she liked had passed away is adorable.
