The cast for Suicide Squad has been confirmed.

The much-awaited supervillain movie will star Jared Leto, Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne, following much speculation.

The official cast list is as follows:

Jared Leto – The Joker

Will Smith – Deadshot

Tom Hardy – Rick Flagg

Margot Robbie – Harley Quinn

Jai Courtney – Boomerang

Cara Delevingne – Enchantress

According to reports, Jesse Eisenberg may also show up in the film as Lex Luthor, after he takes on the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

"The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one," Warner Bros president Greg Silverman said in a statement.

"We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer's amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero."

Based on the DC Comic, Suicide Squad was confirmed when Warner Bros announced its DC film slate up to 2020 in October.

The story follows supervillains who were organised by the US government to work together as a black ops team in exchange for redemption.

Suicide Squad will be directed by David Ayer (Training Day, Fury) and produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. It begins shooting in Toronto next April.

Suicide Squad releases on August 5, 2016 in the US, with a UK date to follow.

With Oprah and Viola Davis in the running to play Amanda Waller which would be amazing casting either way.

I think they've casted it well, Jared will make a good Joker although I dislike him being in this film, hopefully he's a villain and not part of the team since that would not make a whole lot of sense given Joker's character. Tom Hardy and Will Smith will be interesting and I've got high hopes for Margot's Harley Quinn.

I'm not too familiar on Boomerang, Enchantress, or Rick Flagg, but this sounds like it's worth a watch
