Default Double Standards

It doesnt bother me but is it just me or is there a lot of double standards in terms of what you can and can't say. For example, Katies "too much Americans" comment, if she had of said that about Africans or Indians she probably would have been removed immediately and definitely would be lashed out of it online and in the press.

Im glad shes not getting punished for it.

We should all be allowed to say whatever the **** we want and back in the day housemates could even say racial comments.

Im not condoning it but as a social experiment I want to see people talk as they would outside the house.

Well she 100% should not be punished for it. I agree with you in the way that people are racist in the real world and there should be less inteference in terms of minor comments (Like if Katie had of said the American comment about another nationality). As long as they don't get away with being very personal or blatantly offensive (e,g, Danielle's (CBB5) **** off home comment)

"Too many Africans" and "too many Indians" has racist connotations. Saying "too many Americans" does not.

What?Who's we?You mean you.
You got your period or something?
My point is valid.
If it is true that they paid top dollar for her to go on the show and cause controversy then giving her a warning on the first night for saying something as inoffensive as there being too many Americans would'nt be their best move.
BB don't wanna dumb her down before she's even started.
Imo they should leave the warnings for serious issues like racism.I don't like the woman but that was not warning worthy.Neither would saying there are too many of any nationality on the show.

I think there are a lot more worrying prejudices expressed on these shows than Americans having a slightly harder time than most other housemates on a foreign edition of Big Brother.

i disagree, its just another prejudice we choose to ignore....the prejudice shown towards men and white men is ignored. dirk benedicts alcoholism and cancer indiced impotence was mocked and ignored as was the physical and mental bullying of michael madsen, or some of the choice words of jermaine jackson and his white trash comments.....all of which was ignored

Didn't you know that American people are the only types of people you can say anything against in the UK? It's stupid and rude as these people have actually got names, she should try learning them, the same for all the anti-Americans out there.

Tbh I don't see the difference between calling someone “The African” and then someone else “The American” as they're both clearly being used in a derogatory way?

Again, I don't think a few Americans having a slightly more difficult time on a foreign version of Big Brother is as harrowing as the fact that a woman has been evicted first on every civilian series, that it took twelve series for a black woman to survive a head-to-head eviction, the double standards in how men and women are viewed with regards to sexuality (how many people who voted for Aaron to win do you think also voted to evict Noirin two years earlier?), and plenty of other issues with racism and sexism.

I don't know, I just find the sense of entitlement that some forum posters have about Americans is unfounded and annoying. This is a British television show and there really is no need for it to pander to the American celebrities, and this sense of entitlement and arrogance that surrounds the Americans is exactly why a lot of the Brits can't stand the Americans.

That's normally just a joke that they like to use though, what Katie said and what a lot of the British public feel towards American people is not a joke.

A very big difference.

All I ask for is that the American contestants be treated fairly, if they do something really silly then fair enough, but they shouldn't be hated on just because they're American.

No, it has xenophobic connotations instead, which isn't a world away from racism. The same nasty principles apply, the difference is that xenophobia includes prejudice towards people of the same race but still from a different country.
