Default Double standards.

Emily had already heard the word 'n*****' used in the Big Brother house, by Charley, before she used it.

If she gets thrown out for a word that is deemed offensive, shouldn't Charley suffer the equal punishment?

Well, I agree and a lot of people won't, but in my eyes, a word is either offensive or it's not.

what is you problem man. do you agree with what emily said. i'm not saying it's right to ever use that word but in case you didn't notice charley is black. it's a bit hard to be racist towards yourself.

What about any black viewers that are offended by the word? Are they not allowed to be offended because Charley is black?

Exactly.

She was thrown out on the grounds that she used an offensive word.

Charley also used it. Black or not, deserved the same punishment.

when a white person says that word they are either stupidly ignorent or just plain racist, when a black person says it its either a greeting or stupidly ignorent.

Didn't Charley say it after having been prompted by Emily first though?

of course we are. i am offended by anyone using that word but my point is as a white person emily should have know that people would say her comments were racist. she must have heard of the shilpa shetty thing. and let's not forget shabaz used to call himself the p word all the time. nobody said anything than.

It's ridiculous how it's percieved that black people [and I'm sorry if that term is offensive, but I don't want to sound patronising with all these silly PC terms] can use the word jokingly towards each other, yet if a white person says it, there's huge backlash.

I personally hate Charley, and would prefer she was thrown out anyway but if she did say that, then it's not fair at all that only Emily is punished in this way.

Emily said it in the secure knowledge that the word had already been used in the house.

how is calling someone a black person offensive people have lost the plot. would you have stuck up for her if she had said that word to an asian person. i've always thought it and theses comments have proved me right if shilpa had been black noone would have cared.

I do think if it had been said by a black person or not the word is offensive to the viewers watching. they both should have suffered. but i thinkanother punnishment would be susficient.

Do Asians go around calling each other p**is, or [Shilpa] Poppadom? Do they joke about each other living in slums and tell each other to "go home"? No, the Shilpa case was different, there were 3/4 people bullying her, who disliked her for other reasons but used racist and offensive terms towards her.

I'm only saying that it's unfair that it's OK for black people to call each other n****r, but if a white person says it, there's frenzy. There's no need for it.

And I'm not sticking up for Emily, I just think it's unfair that she'll now live with this for the rest of her life. What she said was stupid and also unnecessary.

I know its double standards but just emily should have been thrown out
the use of the word ****** is normally used by white people to be racist towards black people, so charley using it was clearly not meant to be racist

It's either both or neither. If it's a racially offensive word, then nobody should use it. Even the race that it's talking about.

And I'm laughing at the "celebrity treatment" Jack, Jade, Danielle, and Jo got. Their bullying and racial comments amounted to dozens, while this one incident got her removed from the house.

I think they should have both been given a stern telling off, behind the BB cameras and left it there.

Now there’s a media circus waiting to devourer any housemate who even comes close to a racial statement, which is only bad for the show.

What you call 'sad' still doesn't mean it's morally unacceptable. You're right, the word isn't acceptable for white people in this real world, but that's because ignorance is rife in this real world, and the sooner the boundaries are broken down for these ridiculous double standards, this real world, will be a better world.

If you take into account that she uses this word with her black friends, you can understand more why she seen it acceptable and seemed comfortable saying it in front of Charley and the BB audience.

If anything it is naivety, not the endless list of derogatory terms people are using against her.

Charley, is black. End of. You're free to degrade yourself anyway you please and she will too. But degrading others is another.

Agreed, we either have true equality or no equality at all. You can't allow one person to use a word and then disallow another person to use the exact same word.
In my eyes that is discrimination which goes against the whole point of getting rid of Emily. Either get rid of Emily and Charley or neither of them.
