Default Emily\'s shock at death threats

Quote:
Emily's shock at death threats
DISGRACED Big Brother contestant Emily Parr has received two DEATH THREATS after being kicked off the show for making a racist slur.
The posh 19-year-old was given the boot just a week into the Channel 4 programme after calling Charley a “n***er.”

Blonde Emily said she was targeted by people on her MySpace website.

She claimed one of the death threats said: “I’m going to hunt you down, girl.” Now she is worried to leave her house in Bristol. She confessed: “I am a bit nervous about going out.

“It’s just about making that step. There’s still a big cloud hanging over my head.

“I want to smile again.”

But even her mum Mandy is furious at her for the BB outburst.

She said: “I love her dearly, but I was so angry with her for saying that word.

“I’ve never heard anyone in my family speak like that.”

Emily admitted she didn’t see Jade Goody’s infamous Celebrity Big Brother bust-up with Shilpa Shetty which sparked an earlier race row. And she tried to tone down her own remark saying: “It was a term of affection.”

She added: “Me and Charley were good friends in the house. I know it offended people, but it’s a term used rather loosely among my friends — black and white.”

Emily told Heat magazine she will never use the word again, saying: “I was ignorant not to think about what I was saying.

“I’ll always be gutted by what happened. There’s no amount of words that can cover how sorry and how stupid I’ve been.

“But we’ve all got to move on now and all I ask from anyone is that they understand what really happened and accept my apology.”

Full interview in Heat, out now.p

People dishing out death threats are just idiots. They should get a hobby, or better still, a life!

But given the bile and vitriol we have had to put up here it is not surprising some cross that line. Jokes about the KKK and a total dismissal of a majority opinion from real data of those who disagreed with the way Channel 4 mishandled it.

I have had to shell out another £1.65 for Heat to find out more about how the producers greeted her in the runs. The way some went on I suspected that they would have wanted the police to be waiting, to cuff her, and throw her into the back of a police van (no coat, she deserved to freeze), and made to wait hours in a suitably wet and cold police cell. Has anyone reported her to the police?

What went on afterwards was a witch hunt because she uttered a word that was thrown around amongst a circle of her friends who used it as if it meant the complete opposite to its hate filled etymological origins. If one hears that word from people of a certain background, in a certain context and it is never challenged, then it is easy to see how it would manifest itself in a similar situation. It was an accident waiting to happen, as any accident investigator will tell you. (Do not read into this any justification). The main trouble is that people do not and will not consider context.

Here is a thought experiment to illustrate this.

Killing other humans is wrong.

Someone murders another one so they can steal their money, clear cut that is wrong and in breach of the law. Pre-meditated Murder

Someone goes out drinking, gets in their car and mows someone down whilst under the influence, and possibly is too blotto to realise what they did. Death by dangerous driving, DUI, although not premeditated

A police marksman is forced to shoot dead an armed gunman who has gone on a killing spree.

Three examples, two are held to be illegal and are clear cut, three if you include the gunman on the killing spree prior to being shot by the police officer. To some who would not listen to the context in which Emily used that word, they would consider the policeman just as heinous as the others because he killed someone. it does not matter what the context murder is murder

With that kind of mentality out there and even in here, it is not surprising why we have people sending Emily death threats and others secretly justifying them. Look at the sun article again and read the comments and see the one about the world's smallest violin, that comes across as secret justification to me.

Ther people who do this as well as getting a hobby and a life, should wake up and smell the coffee. Always consider context, something Channel 4 failed to do. They could have acted differently as I have described elsewhere, instead they chose the path of good ratings and hung Emily out to dry.

Yes I am surprised they did not have her hauled off in a police van, does that mean they have some remnant of humanity in them?

The fact is, that's exactly how some people do see it, I've come across many people implying that a woman who has an abortion is as evil as Adolf Hitler, which I obviously disagree with but a lot of people see it like that. So to a lot of people, it wouldn't matter which context the word was used in and even those people aren't wrong because an opinion is an opinion.

People live sad lives. They complain at what Emily did/said but then go and send death threats, can't they see at the end of the day it makes them no better.

Unfortunately there are some nutcases out there who will say anything.

Emily chose to swim with the sharks though and going in the BB house generates publicity without her verbal ridicules adding problems.

Not saying she deserves this though

The kind of people who make these threats ARE the problem in society, they are the ignorant with a wholesome feeling for discrimination. How some twisted, sick-minded fascist can find this as an opportunity to spread their hate filled attitude further than their own despicable little mind is the kind of issue which seriously should be brought into question, rather than a young girl who tried to bond with her friend.

no matter what a person has done, they don't deserve death threats.

It is a terrible thing to receive "Death Threats" & I am not surprised, as so many people enjoy hating and enjoy intimidating people, because it is their pass-time to hate.

Emily said the (N) word and BB threw her out of the house immediately.

After this happened, Endemol were very happy that Channel 4 allowed them to show the uncut footage containing the (N) word, to all BB viewers.

I remember when Jo O'Meara received "Death Threats" & it nearly destroyed her and ruined her life.

Many people do things like this, "Death Threats", "Intimidation", "Evil-Minded people"

They know who they are

Emily is in this position, because of people like that, who wish hate & make it happen...
