Default What has happened to Big Brother?

I watched the final of Big Brother last night and was appalled by how rushed it was, how poorly structured it was and how it was not publicized on Channel 5, MTV as 5 is now owned by Viacom or in newspapers or magazines to generate public interest.

The production of Big Brother on 5 since its arrival in 2011 has bordered on a joke. I despise the music that accompanies the highlights on the shows. Big Brother is Big Brother. Why are we treated to these TOWIE like montages and name tags on the housemates during the highlights? We know who they are, we do not need constantly reminding.

For me, the show should have been rested and remembered for how good it was back in its heyday in 2002 when Kate won when the final reached 10 million peak. BB2 bettered it with 13 million the year before.

Big Brother ended on Channel 4 in 2010 and for me it should have rested for 2/3 years and then be given a fresh reboot. They could then have created public interest and excited people with......

You thought Big Brother evicted their last housemate......think again
Big Brother is back, big and better than ever before.....
Big Brother is looking for housemates for the 2013 series.

Or
(Dramatic music) Brian Dowling and Nikki Graham pay respects at the Big Brother house.

This is Big Brother.....would Brian and Nikki come to the diary room
Thought you saw the last of Big Brother? Think again....
Big Brother: The Live Launch

There seems to be no creativity in trying to get people interested at launch stage. Other than the advert featuring Rylan and Emma, there was nothing to suggest there was to be a Big Brother 16 until they announced it.

I think if it is to survive it needs to:
1. Reintroduce live feed as a pay-per-view platform
2. Change the production team, perhaps rehire Phil Edgar Jones, Shirley Jones, Sharon Powers as a consultancy team like Eastenders has with Tony Jordan.
3. Take members of the public as housemates and stop using agencies or limit the use of agencies to 5 housemates.

TBF it was dead in the water when C5 picked it up... C4 had killed it completely it was barely getting over 1 million viewers and C4s problem was it still treated it like its flagship program with expensive live feeds on its sister channels, 3 spin off shows... it became unsustainable.

This sort of dumbed down heavily edited version of BB now is probably all that can reasonable exist in the age of shows like TOWIE and MIC... sadly

I love the show....I hate talent shows and fly on the wall shows but I love Big Brother. ...it was such a new and unique concept. ..but I don't think it can ever be like it was in its hey day...we live in a world of social media now and the house mates are too savvy to the benefits the show can bring them...they are playing BB not the other way round. ...Prime examples this year were Danny and Sam...they were there solely to increase their own profile and hardly gave anything back in return....these new breed of house mates are just using BB....the tail is wagging the dog. ...and it can never be 2001 or 2006 again....the world has changed
