Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is paralysed and in a wheelchair, according to former racing driver Philippe Streiff.
The 45-year-old seven-time champion cannot speak and has memory problems. Streiff, who is himself wheelchair-bound since a crash in Brazil during pre-season tests in 1989 left him a quadriplegic, was speaking on French radio. The Frenchman, who is a good friend of Schumacher's, said: 'He is getting better but everything is relative. 'It's very difficult. He can't speak. Like me, he is in a wheelchair paralysed. He has memory problems and speech problems.' Streiff, 59, was seen visiting Schumacher when the German was in intensive care in Grenoble Hospital, France. ![]() |

I guess it's still very early days, really. At one point we didn't think he'd make it at all. Always hoping for good news, thanks for the updates, Iceman.

It's hard to believe this hapoened nearly a year ago. I'm always gonna keep the faith. What this man accomplished is unmatched. He's my hero and I'll always support him. #ForzaMichael
Also at least we had some good news about Jules Bianchi today. |

So sad, but it's good to hear he's slowly getting better.

A lesser man would have died. His was so extremely fit though, that's got to have been a major factor in his recovery, even if that recovery does seem slow. I'm still hopeful for him.

Share the sentiment. This is the man that made me fall in love with F1 when I was a kid. He'll never be the same man he was before the accident but I'm sure he and the doctors will be determined enough to give him a decent quality of life.

Apparently he is making slow progress. The media blackout is still in place. Can't believe it's nearly 2 years since the accident.
