Default Dermot O' Leary replaces Sir Terry Wogan on BBC CiN

The veteran TV presenter is having a procedure on his back and is understood to have withdrawn in line with doctors' advice.

He said he would miss "our wonderful, inspiring evening" but would still be "watching, cheering and donating".

O'Leary will front the annual charity BBC show from 19:30 - 22:00 GMT.

"We are incredibly grateful to Dermot for stepping in at such short notice but know he'll do us and Sir Terry proud," the corporation said.

The show is also due to be presented by Tess Daly, Rochelle Humes, Nick Grimshaw and Fearne Cotton.

"It's a huge honour to be asked to step into Sir Terry's shoes tonight; he is one of my broadcasting heroes and has been a source of support for me down the years," O'Leary said.

I will miss that Irish soft voice and unquestionable charm... Oh, wait a minute.... Where's Dermot from?

Seriously - a good choice, though old Wogie is a tough act to follow.

wogan is a great wordsmith, a very funny raconteur with a lovely lilt, alas Dermot is not
other than reading from an autocue his talents seem to remain hidden

Little Dermot did really look little standing next to those women in their 5 inch heels.

I thought he did okay - quite well in fact - but you must remember, old Wogan is nearly 80 years old.

I know Brucie did a stint last night and even he is looking a bit unsteady on his legs. I noticed he was leaning forward to stay steady. And again, he's nearly 90.

These old guys can't go on forever. Maybe CIN should be Dermot's gig from now on.

I watched most of this last night, well produced but the comedy segments were a little below par compared with previous years.
