Default Anyone learning to drive?

As I'm 17 - I've recently started learning to drive. Just got back from my 4th lesson, and I'm still finding it a bit scary...

Anyone else have any interesting experiences? Or is anyone else just learning at the mo?

Good luck to anyone who is

Good luck to you and others who are learning at the moment!

I have quite a few friends and classmates now who passed over the past academic year, and are driving about. I'm not 17 yet (I'll be 17 in December), so I have to wait a bit - I can't wait really. I've even been dreaming about driving (no joke) and it's happened more than once. I find it fascinating how I know exactly what I'm supposed to be doing within the car in my dreams (I don't know it yet in real life).

I heard recently however that the age you can learn to drive in the UK will be moved up to 21 – I’m hoping it’s a possibility rather than a certainty, though. It’s probably because of maturity levels/numbers of careless driving cases, but either way I think it makes more sense to do it all at the end of compulsory education, rather than too late!

Just park it out on the road with a yellow post it note reading 'Please Dont Steal' on the windscreen - works like a charm.

LOL! I can't park it at uni cos it's a campus-based one... with no parking. And I absolutely refuse to pay tax on something that is miles away from me

And my gran is stubborn... if ever I pass she'll immediately buy me a car. Don't get me wrong, I'm immensely grateful, but jesus.

Theirs a catch , your going to have to take her shopping in it , as well as escort her to bingo and those little known 'wild nights'.

Pmsl! ... She's still a spring chicken, she can run to the shops if she wanted too. I'm starting to believe she'll never go grey and old.

I'm learning at the moment, been learning on and off since around the end of last year and I'm on my 3rd instructor, no I didn't scare the other two away! The first was was my Grandparents neighbour and he was retiring anyway but the second one I just didn't get on with, right sarcastic tosser but my 3rd one is really good and I've improved no end with him.

I should hopefully by taking my test pretty soon.

I learnt to drive a couple of years ago and I remember thinking jesus this is scary I will NEVER EVER go at more than 50 miles an hour, now I am a total speed fiend and have a few points on my licence to prove it!

My hubby is so worried about my licence and it's current state that he invested in a snooper speed camera detector for me lol so you might feel a little scared now but trust me it will soon pass!

I'm learning at the mo.......it's great fun.

I passed the theory test in May (35/35!), and hope to take the practical test next month or so.

Ruth my son in law has epilepsy and he holds a full driving licence. It has to be reviewed every 2 years and if he has a seizure he then has to hand his licence back for 12 months. I am sure you will get it if you are able to.x

I'm 25 and started learning earlier this year, I'm hoping to get into a regular routine of taking lessons as I never seem to get the time because of having to arrange babysitters for my child when she's not at Nursery and my partner's working. I practice with my partner and he feels I've improved a lot since March/April when even the thought of steering petrified me. I've got issues around co-ordination and spatial awareness due to my Asperger's Syndrome, and sometimes find it difficult to follow instructions but I feel with practice my confidence will grow. I've worked through a lot of challenging situations in the past with courage and proved a lot of people wrong about me, so I'm sure I will handle this as long as everyone continues to have faith in me.

I'll keep you all posted with how I'm getting on, I can see learning to drive is one of the biggest challenges I'm ever going to have in my life but feel more and more confident that I will handle it.

I was learning from February to May/June but quit cos I wanted to concentrate on my A-Levels.
Now that I'm off to uni, there's no point in re-starting it really cos I don't think there would be enough time to polish up and take a test before I go, so i'm not going to waste money.
Also I think I was being a bit naive as there is no real reason for me to drive, I'm not going to need to at uni as I get a free bus pass so I may as well just wait till after I've finished my degree.
