Surprised this hasn't been posted, as apparently it's kicking up quite a fuss on Twitter etc...

...I personally doubt she meant anything by it, but it is almost satirically misjudged .

Although part of me is thinking that people have it totally backwards? It is a GOOD thing that she didn't think anything of it when she made it? It shows the sort of "colour-blindness" that should presumably be the "end game" of tackling racism. I don't think she really stopped for a moment and thought about the connotations. She wasn't thinking "this is a photoshopped picture of me riding around on a black man", simply "this is me riding around on a fast man". And that SHOULD be the defining characteristic of an individual... the things about them that make THEM an individual.

Like I said though, I actually find it far more offensive that an exceptional, world record breaking individual like Bolt is being reduced to a "faceless representative of race" by the people who are taking offense.

Yeah the original poster likened it to when white people used black people as horses or levitation devices back in the day but in this case I think Ellen meant no harm. Black people are telling the OP she's reaching.

I think we have to be careful as black people since we're scrutinized and people listening to us comes with conditions, we have to be careful what we put out there.
