This is an awesome program. I never understood the concept of detention. At least the way it was implemented in my school... we had in-school detention that you could sit and draw if you wanted.
![]() ![]() First meditation I ever did was in magnet school during elementary.. our art teacher had us sit there and concentrate on bacon being cooked in our household and being able to taste/smell it... that was the tastiest bacon ever. ![]() ![]() Damn it, now I'm getting in the car and going to go get lunch. Excellent concept Maru, far too progressive for us little Englanders though as we hurtle back to 1955 as the previous post demonstrates

Tbh I'd rather have detention so I could see it being a good deterrent

I read another interesting article a while ago, Maru, about a teacher who had bottled water on desks and got them to bring in their carpet slippers and take off shoes, that worked very well in the classroom generally and learning went up. I wonder sometimes if classrooms/detentions etc just need a little bit of offbeat to get the learning juices flowing.

![]() The carpet slippers would be a great idea for elementary. If anything, it's less wear and tear on the carpets. They should have as much daylight coming in too as possible. I hate artificial lighting and a lack of windows. I only turn on lights in my house when it is proper dark. I'm sure it reduces electric bills with regards to AC since we live in a tropical climate, but the rooms were always so cold and I would start to fall asleep when they ran projectors. My non-magnet elementary had wall to wall windows, a skylight and the rooms were so full of color and I recognized later that my moods/productivity was lower because of it when I transferred to a magnet program... |

..it's an interesting concept and good to see positive results..(maybe I'll suggest it...)..the opposite as well is effective, of working that 'unruly energy' away with exercise and something that we've always adopted.../a run around/a ball game etc..
..with the water thing, we also have water breaks as many schools do...children always bring filled water bottles in and have them in their classroom and it's ensured that they do have plenty to drink through their school day..otherwise they can be quite forgetful creatures and far to busy to think about drinking.../so yeah, water in classrooms is quite a common thing in this country also... |
