Default *Spoiler* Coronation Street - Sarah\'s Departure

[spoil]
Sarah’s brief encounter

We’ve been gagging to get our hot little hands on the details of Sarah Platt’s departure from Coronation Street at Christmas – and now we can reveal that the young mum’s swansong will be a carbon copy of one of the most famous film scenes of all time.

Soap fans will be left with a lump in their throats as Sarah leaves her new husband Jason standing on a railway station platform. Sound familiar? It should do… Scriptwriters admit they based the gut-wrenching farewell on 1945 epic Brief Encounter, which starred Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard.

Jason and Sarah have been offered the chance of a new life in Italy by Sarah’s long-lost uncle. But as they board the train, Jason gets cold feet and Sarah decides to go without him. A smug Corrie source told the Daily Star: “This is the final chapter of a love story which was destined to fail.”

There’s yet more bride and gloom in Coronation Street this Christmas when fiery former jailbird Jim McDonald bursts into the church as ex-wife Liz prepares to tie the knot with rat-faced cellarman Vernon Tomlin. What happens next leaves Vernon covered in blood and viewers will be left wondering whether or not he makes it down the aisle. Altogether now: “Tis the season to be jolly…”
