X FACTOR winner Leon Jackson has become the first-ever Scot to land a Christmas No1.

Leon's debut track When You Believe stormed to the top of the charts - seeing off Katie Melua and the late Eva Cassidy's What A Wonderful World.

It also booted last year's X Factor champ Leona Lewis and her hit single Bleeding Love into touch .

Leon's single sold an incredible 275,742 copies in one week, outselling the rest of the top 10 combined.

X Factor judge Simon Cowell added: "I'm absolutely thrilled for Leon, what a fantastic Christmas present! He will have aterrific year next year."

And the emotional youngster, who celebrates his 19th birthday next Sunday, was thrilled.

He said: "I'm absolutely over the moon. It's the best Christmas and birthday present ever.

"Having the Christmas No1 is an amazing ending to an amazing year and I'm overwhelmed and thrilled.

"Thank you so much to everyone who has supported me."

Judge Dannii Minogue was also full of praise. She mentored both Leon and his Welsh rival Rhydian Roberts.

He was heading home to Wales from London by train yesterday for Christmas.

She said: "It's amazing to have been a part of the Leon Jackson success story.

"He totally deserves this Christmas No1, as the nation have been with him every step of the way since we fell in love with him at his first X Factor audition.

"It's been a pleasure to nurture Leon's raw talent and I know he will deliver a debut album we will all be proud of."

Leon, from Whitburn, West Lothian, is set to become a millionaire and hopes to buy mum Wendy, 40, a new home.
