t may all be pie in the sky, but Channel 4 are hoping Clare Balding and Davina McCall could be the dream team to replace Mel and Sue on Bake Off.
As Channel 4 bosses insisted they had not blown their budget on the £75million deal, Clare, 45, emerged as bookies favourite on odds of 8/1.
And Davina, 48, is already a golden girl at Channel 4 after working on some of its biggest hits and so is at the top of bosses’ wish list.
Strictly presenter Claudia Winkleman, 44, is also in the frame, but it is thought unlikely she leave the BBC.
