Britney's friends urge a boycott

A group of Britney Spears' associates are asking people to stop buying her new album 'Blackout' "until she's better".

The group said that they are friends of the pop star who are concerned for her well being, and are doing it to send her record label a message to stop turning a blind eye to her recent erratic behaviour.

They believe that if Spears' album sales suffer, the label will be less likely to tolerate her antics.

"They can see she's in pain, and they don't care," a Spears associate told E! Entertainment.

"We've all hung out with Britney a lot. We've seen her at her best and at her worst. And we aren't doing this to be mean. We're doing this out of concern, for herself and for her boys. They need a mother figure and right now, they don't have that."

The group set up a MySpace page to promote their cause under the title 'Save the popstar save the world'.

Spears has recently been involved in a custody battle for her two young sons, during which time a judge revoked the pop star's visitation privileges, calling her a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of drugs and alcohol.

She has also lost her manager and lawyer and been involved in car accidents during the past two months.

'Blackout' is due out in the US on October 30.
