Following this afternoon's secret task, John's video nasty pushed Caprice over the edge tonight when she unleashed a withering attack on him for his attitude towards her.

Not mentioning that she had seen the tape of his criticism, she asked him why he belittled what she had achieved in her life. "Why do you think it's such a horrible thing? Why do you put me down?"

"I put you down because you're obsessed with money," John replied matter-of-factly.

Caprice insisted that he explain why he ridicules her for being ambitious.

"What I said was, in a man's world you've done a fantastic job. I totally admire you," he said of her running her own company.

But he then launched into a more characteristic attack. "But the most obscene thing in this House was when we were doing the hand marks and you gave a commercial for your grubby little bra company. That's you through and through."

Caprice was deeply offended all over again. "How dare you! I'm very proud of what I've achieved," she protested. "It's pathetic what you're saying. What's wrong with having a lingerie line?"

Caprice pointed out that it was John who had entered the House purely for money, which he conceded. But despite emphasising that she had come from a modest background and had come good, John would not admit his attack was unjustified.

"It's like talking to a wall with you," Caprice concluded.

And as the row fizzled out, it was Jackie who asked the most searching question of John. "What's your specialism in life? Besides being a pain in the ass," she asked rhetorically.
