The Royal Today
ITV1 proudly presents a brand new daytime medicacal drama,
The Royal Today.
The back drop for this gritty new drama is the well known hospital, St Aidan’s Royal Free Hospital, made famous by one of ITV1’s flagship shows, The Royal.
Whilst The Royal is set in the 1960s, The Royal Today fast forwards almost 40 years to bring us into the modern day. Jonathan Ormerod, a baby in the 1960s drama, is now working as a consultant physician having followed in the footsteps of both his parents. It may be the same hospital, but life and times have certainly changed and The Royal Today has a contemporary edge that is certain to appeal to all.
The strong line up includes Paul Nicholas who plays cantankerous surgeon, Mr Woods, a man with a hard shell who occasionally allows his soft centre to rise to the surface and Leah Bracknell shines as a glamorous matron, determined to keep her hospital in order. Ben Hull is a charge nurse who struggles to keep his personal life at the door, particularly as his girlfriend is a nurse in the same ward, and Andrew Scarborough is Jonathan Ormerod, a doctor so conscientious that his marriage has paid the price but Dr Sarah Chatwin (Kirsty Mitchell) is only too happy to offer a shoulder to cry on.
With a blend of comedy and drama, The Royal Today will have you laughing one minute and crying the next, but will always keep you on the edge of your seat. You’re sure to be entertained by the range of characters that work in the hospital, and the fascinating stories that unfold in each episode relating to the patients that come through the doors.
