Why Cerys may regret her fumble in the jungle
Quote:
Why Cerys may regret her fumble in the jungle She may be steaming up the small screen in I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here, but it's clear that Catatonia crooner Cerys Matthews is not a fan of reality TV.
It's the only logical conclusion to be drawn from the Welsh woman's flirtation with fellow contestant Marc Bannerman.
The recently divorced singer, 38, went wild for the ex-Eastenders actor, who was booted off the celeb challenge last week. And she even thinks the fumble in the jungle could lead to wedding bells. But to the outside world, Cerys' jungle fever is a case for Mulder and Scully. Because while the mum-of-two is busy deciding who to invite to the fantasy nuptials, love rat Bannerman has already reneged on his promise to jet back to the jungle and has gone into hiding instead.
Bannerman repulsed female fans of the show by snuggling up to smitten Cerys despite having a long-term girlfriend -- Sarah Matravers -- at home. The jilted actress responded hell-hath-no-fury-style, by taking a sharp scissors to his shirts and calling the removal men to their London home.
Now the seemingly intelligent blonde, who wed music producer Seth Riddle in 2003, looks set to become the latest victim of reality-TV heartbreak. If so, she'll join the tragic ranks of Big Brother non-entities Chanelle and Ziggy (the latter branded his erstwhile lover a "psycho" this week).
Her brother Richard Matthews said: "She has fallen for Marc and is in an incredibly vulnerable place. Her divorce is still so raw and hit her hard. It's very difficult to watch her being hurt all over again."
However, she's not the only one who's allowed her hormones to rage on reality TV. As a cautionary note to Cerys, here's what happened to the couples that came before her and Marc when the cameras stopped rolling ...
Lee Davey and Sophie Pritchard -- OFF
Trapped together for 14 weeks, it's little wonder that so many of the lusty Big Brother residents resort to a bit of bedroom action to alleviate the boredom. But forgettable BB3 lovebirds Lee and Sophie were the first to make it to the altar.
Sparks flew when the pair clapped eyes on each other in the Channel 4 fish bowl. And the fact that he had a girlfriend seemed to scarcely inconvenience lothario Lee. But their marriage is now over.
Ulrika Jonsson and Lance Gerrard-Wright -- OFF
Jonsson was hired to help bachelor Lance Gerrard-Wright find a mate on matchmaking ITV show Mr Right. But Cupid must have misread the memo, because the 15 lovelies lined up for the show didn't get a love-in with the singleton stud. The god of love instead wed him and presenter Ulrika in 2003. They had a daughter a year later. But in 2005 they called it a day.
Helen Adams and Paul Clarke -- OFF
BB romances may come and go, but none captured the heart of the public quite like the pairing of Welsh hairdresser Helen "I love blinking I do" Adams and car designer Paul Clarke on the second series.
The romance kept viewers on tenterhooks in 2001. And when the chalk-and-cheese couple finally got it on, fans were hoping for a happy ending. Alas, dizzy Helen and her beau have also fallen victim to the reality-TV romance curse -- they parted ways last year after a five-year relationship.
Paul said: "For the last five years, people have been asking me, 'How's Helen? When are you getting married?' It starts to drain you."
Jordan and Peter Andre -- ON
Things got a bit Insania between pop flop Peter and glamour girl Katie Price on the third series of I'm A Celebrity ... But it wasn't just a flash-in-the-pan flirtation.
Once back to civilisation, the Tangoed twosome started dating and tied the knot a year later in a chav-tastic ceremony. And mum-of-three Katie can't wait to tell their kids the story of how they met. Meanwhile, their romance continues to be played out in shows including Jordan & Peter: Marriage and Mayhem, Katie & Peter: The Baby Diaries.
Abi Titmuss and Lee Sharpe -- OFF
Temperatures soared between busty Abi and lusty Lee on Celebrity Love Island 2005, much to the chagrin of smitten Jayne Middlemiss. Former footballer Lee couldn't keep his hands off the blonde glamour model, who also shared a snog with Rebecca Loos on the paradise island.
But when the cameras stopped rolling -- the love rat did the dirt with shopgirl Kathryn Shaw as soon as he was back on dry land. And after an ill-fated reconciliation, they were even reported to have been planning a beach wedding ceremony.
However, by the end of the year the liaison had gone by the wayside. Nonetheless Lee managed to milk his reality TV stint for a little more loving, chatting up Page 3 girl Danielle Mason at a Celebrity Love Island reunion.
Grace Adam-Short and Mikey Dalton -- ON
It's a case of so far, so good for the latest BB lovebirds, snooty Grace Adam-Short and wannabe Mikey. The dance teacher from Devon, the housemate everyone loved to hate, shared a bed with Mikey on the seventh series.
And the Liverpudlian male model stayed true to the socialite when he was booted off the show weeks before her, despite confessing to being a serial cheat. The couple are set to wed in 2008.
But posh Grace, who won Sky One's Cirque du Celebrité, bitched: "I want my big day to be classy -- not like Jordan and Peter Andre's." Likelihood of divorce? Place your bets now.
