Distressed Amy Winehouse wanders the streets barefoot - in just her bra and jeans - at 6am

If Amy Winehouse's fans were hoping she might be trying to get her act together, these pictures will not provide much reassurance.

Barefoot, and clad only in her bra and jeans, the troubled singer emerged from a friend's house at 5.45am on Sunday looking distressed and agitated.

Onlookers said she appeared disorientated as she wandered around on the pavement for several minutes in the freezing cold before disappearing back inside.

The 24-year-old singer, who cancelled her UK tour last week, has ignored pleas from her family to seek help for her addiction to drugs.

They had hoped that she would return to the Causeway Clinic in Essex, where she has already had two failed attempts to get herself clean.

Instead, she has been 'resting' at a friend's house in East London.

Quite why she came outside only half dressed in the early hours is unclear. One onlooker said she looked up and down the road as if she was waiting for someone, but no one arrived at the house.

"She came out of the house, walked down the drive and wandered around on the pavement for a bit.

"She looked upset and agitated but there was no obvious reason for her to have come outside. It was weird."

Last week she was pictured looking clearly the worse for wear with specks of white powder in her nostril.

The singer apologised to fans after cancelling her tour but explained that she was unable to perform on stage without support from her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, who is in prison awaiting trial on charges of grievous bodily harm.

Her spokesman said she had scrapped all live shows and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year on the instruction of her doctor, adding that 'the rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain Amy has been under in recent weeks have taken their toll.'

Miss Winehouse told fans in a statement: 'I cannot give it my all on stage without my Blake. I am so sorry but I do not want to do the shows half-heartedly.

'I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it is just not the same.'

Those who have already bought tickets are being offered refunds.

Fans have booed the singer off stage on a number of occasions in recent weeks after she arrived late for gigs and then slurred her words while singing.

Her family are concerned that she has not been eating or sleeping properly.

Earlier this month, police raided Miss Winehouse's home in North London and arrested her husband, a 25- year-old music video assistant, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Last night her spokesman was unavailable for comment.
