[A man has been arrested in
connection with a hit-and-run
in which a 12-year-old girl was
seriously injured in Newbury, Berkshire.
The child, who has not been named,
was walking on the pavement
alongside the A339 towards Newbury
town centre with her family
shortly before 9pm on Friday
when she was struck by a van.
She was taken to hospital, where
she is understood be in a critical condition.
Thames Valley Police have said the
man under arrest is 19 years old
and from Winchester in Hampshire.]
