HOLLYWOOD star HEATH LEDGER went on cocaine and ecstasy binges with model NAOMI CAMPBELL, it emerged last night.

The 28-year-old was found dead in his New York apartment on Tuesday. He was naked, face down and surrounded by bottles of anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills.

At least three of drugs were prescribed in Europe. And it is believed Ledger picked them up in London where he was filming last weekend.

Police revealed a rolled up $20 bill found in the apartment was to be taken to a lab for testing. However, they said that no visible drug residue was found on it.

Sources close to the actor said Ledger’s hard partying ruined his relationship with MICHELLE WILLIAMS, his girlfriend until September last year, with whom he had daughter Matilda, now two.

Last night the New York medical examiner said toxicology reports to determine what drugs the Aussie actor had in his body when he died would take at least ten days.

Ledger’s close friend Shekhar Kapur probably heard his last words. In a phone call with the movie director he asked him: “Wake me up.”

Kapur explained: “I last spoke to him the night before he died. He said he could not see me that night but really wanted to meet me the next day. He made me promise I would call him in the morning and wake him. I tried but didn’t get any response.”

Stories of Ledger’s drugs binges came from Rebecca White, who worked as Naomi Campbell’s PA from 2001 until 2004. She said she saw the pair using cocaine when Ledger first found Hollywood success.

She said: “When I was working for Naomi I saw Heath do drugs a few times. He was new on the scene but everybody was hailing him as the new It Boy actor.

“We had been hanging in Naomi’s bungalow at the Bel Air Hotel. Heath asked Naomi if she had any cocaine - I used to carry it around for her - and I remember giving him the packet and he went off, back and forth throughout the night.”

Rebecca said she bought Ledger cocaine a few days later. “Each time I got an eight ball - four-and-a-half grams. The second time he came up all three of us spent a night doing coke in her bungalow. It was quite decadent. We were there for five or six hours.”

She also saw Ledger’s wild side at parties hosted by P.DIDDY, who now calls himself SEAN JOHN after his clothing line, though the rapper is well known for his aversion to drugs.

Fellow revellers, including KEVIN SPACEY and DONATELLA VERSACE, equally had no idea of what Ledger and Campbell were getting up to.

She said: “We all went to Paris for another fashion party a couple of weeks later. We went to one of Puffy’s (Diddy) parties at this club. There was coke and a big bag of ecstasy pills.

“Naomi gave Heath a handful of these little blue pills and I remember him putting them all in his mouth at once and swigging a bottle of Cristal Champagne.”

Naomi has been in rehab and is now clean of drugs.

Rebecca also worked as a personal assistant to Stardust star CLARE DANES, a friend of Heath’s former fiancée Michelle Williams.

She said: “Heath wanted to be a family man. He adored his daughter.

“But his partying was a problem. Michelle felt very uncomfortable with it and dropped him out of her life.”

Perth-born Ledger excelled at both cricket and hockey at school.

Ledger romanced a string of beautiful stars including actresses NAOMI WATTS and HEATHER GRAHAM. He was most recently linked with Aussie supermodel GEMMA WARD.

Sources said police searching his apartment found Xanax, Valium and Zoloft along with Donormyl, an antihistamine that can be used to aid sleep.

It was reported that the star could have been suffering from pneumonia and may have been taking further medication for it.
Friends said the actor, who jetted to New York from London just over a day before his death, told how he had struggled after his break-up with Brokeback Mountain co-star Michelle.

She was last night said to be “distraught” and flying to New York from Stockholm with Matilda.

Ledger said his role as the Joker was physically and mentally draining and that he was sleeping only two hours a night. Recent interviews also hinted that the actor’s mind was troubled.

On becoming a father, he told American TV: “I feel good about dying now, You look at death differently.

“It’s a Catch-22 because I feel like I’m alive in her but at the same time you don’t want to die because you want to be around for the rest of her life.”

Supermodel HELENA CHRISTENSEN told last night how she was on her way to visit Heath Ledger at his SoHo apartment when she learned of his death.

The Danish beauty, 39, who is reported to have dated the actor years ago, says she left a message on his answering machine just before he was found dead. She said: “I am beyond sad at this point.

Stars of JACK NICHOLSON movie The Bucket List paid tribute to Ledger at the film’s London premiere last night.

Nicholson and co-star MORGAN FREEMAN, both 70, took to the red carpet in Leicester Square.

Asked about Ledger’s death, Nicholson said: “Wasn’t that horrible.”

Freeman said: “It’s a great loss to the industry. He was an enormous movie talent.”
