I really dont get the backlash
Apparently the PS4 version has some serious issues for some people - although it's odd that it's not everyone given that it's the same hardware. If Scott can play it on his old toaster why can't everyone...

HOWEVER - yes - from videos I've seen it's not just poor framerates and graphical glitches... there are incidents where world assets don't load in (usually while driving_ and people simply fall through the bottom of the map, tumbling forever into an endless void . I think the tl;dr of it is that the game was built for SSD loading times and the older consoles don't have 'em ... the PC version installation actually came with a little "highly recommended" warning tag for installing to an SSD. Luckily I got an an m.2 nVME back in the summer (the "super fast SSDs" that the new consoles use).

I think the sad reality is that it's borderline unplayable on old tech. I know some people are fine with it on PS4 Pro and One X but even then I hear it runs at 30fps with framerate drops into the low 20's... I know some people don't mind that but yeah... I am one of those people who wouldn't be able to play at that. I wouldn't refund, to be fair - but I'd be shelving it until the PS5.

It's a damn shame because having now got it running extremely well at a solid 60fps (static res scaling was the KEY guys ) - it is an absolutely brilliant game. I think in a couple of years it'll be widely hailed as a masterpiece. But the technical issues are a disaster, they really are... it was unplayable on my PC when I first booted it up and took 3 hours of tinkering to get it running "ok" and then literally a week of stopping, thinking and tweaking settings to get it looking genuinely impressive. I am a massive tech geek so I actually really enjoyed that - it made me nostalgic, took me back to the 90's and spending all day trying to get drivers to load up properly to run games in MS Dos with sounds and mouse working properly... you got it working and felt like you had "won" ... but I am surely in the minority in enjoying the tinkering. Most people will find it frustrating at best, and many will simply give up on it as a lost cause.

Basically... the game only works acceptable "out of the box" on next gen consoles, and RTX30-series card on PC... ... with the double-whammy being that no one can buy those even if they want to right now. Console launch has been a disaster and no one has been able to get an RTX (without paying double to an eBay scalper) since about a week after they launched in like September .

If the game only works (well) out the box for what... maybe 10% of players... they really have no choice but to offer refunds. I have faith that they will fix it though and that eventually the game itself will shine through.
