Troubled Star Rushed To Hospital
Britney Spears has been rushed to hospital under a massive police escort after emergency services were called to her Hollywood mansion. LA police sources said the 26-year-old was being taken to "get help" and had been put on a "mental health evaluation hold". Celebrity website TMZ said the emergency treatment had been arranged by Britney's psychiatrist. The singer has reportedly not slept for five days, and her psychiatrist felt her mental stability had deteriorated rapidly. More than a dozen motorbike cops and an ambulance swept through the front gates of Spears' hilltop Studio City home shortly before 1am LA time. A police helicopter hovered overhead. Eight minutes later, officers inside the home radioed to colleagues that "the package is on the way out", the LA Times said. Spears was rushed from a side entrance of her home into an ambulance. The vehicle was escorted by a dozen police motorcycles, two police cars and two police helicopters. She has been taken to the UCLA Medical Center, where she is expected to remain for the next three days. Just this week, her manager Sam Lufti admitted on US television the singer had "mental issues". Earlier this month, the singer was taken to hospital after officers found her distraught and apparently under the influence of drugs. It followed a row on January 4 with her former husband Kevin Federline over their two children. She had refused to hand the kids back to Federline, who has custody of Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. Spears reportedly locked herself in a bathroom in a fit of hysterics. Pictures of Spears in a highly distressed state being taken away in an ambulance were shown around the world. She spent two days in hospital, and was subsequently banned from seeing her children because of her behaviour. Sky News showbiz correspondent Steve Hargrave said: "The whole thing really has spiralled dramatically out of control over the past few weeks. "Britney's life has been turning more and more into a freak show, with her every move paraded in front of the media. "Seeing her crying openly on the pavement the other day really drives home the truth that beneath this global superstar is a fragile human being who desperately needs to be protected and left alone in private. "The trouble is, she's still one of the biggest stars in the world, and wherever she goes, the paparazzi will follow." Original article here |
