I agree with this decision provided they are given the enhanced training which it says they will have
Also, they have to have undergone 200 hours and have been in post 12 months.
Regardless of whether they're specials or paid there will always be some who will not use it as trained or when not necessary, but I think it's a vital piece of kit when used appropriately and in the right situation. I have first hand experience of it being used in a situation that did not warrant it and neither was it safe to deploy, but that's another story.
