I actually think all of this is still important, not in terms of public opinion, but as a signal to politicians themselves ... and that's why it's important that we don't just say "meh that's history now" and forget about it, because that's what they're banking on with the whole mindset.
The mindset of course being "one rule for me and another for thee" - the expectation/assumption that they can set strict rules for the public they represent, and then smugly sit above those rules without fear of any comeback that isn't easily dismissed (or forgotten entirely once they're out of the spotlight).
A terrible situation that should never be allowed to happen. Taking various opinions about the rights and wrongs of social distancing/lockdowns out of the equation entirely, the important thing here is parity. They should either have stuck by the rules they signed off on themselves, OR they should have had fewer/less strict rules for all. It's the "you can't do it but we can because..." that needs addressing. If there are clear consequences down the line for politicians, then in future, other politicians might at least think twice about doing the same. Not that they won't still do it... but
less is still something.
