Default Brighton Pride Sat, 5 Aug 2023 : No trains running, Strikes

Thameslink (GTR) and Southern Railways
could Not Do a Reduced Service
because that many gays packed into trains
is too dangerous.

So on Sensible Safety Grounds
no trains will be running to Brighton on August the 5th.

[“Safety is always a priority.
There are considerable extra
resources to safely manage the
area outside Brighton station, contributed to by Pride
. We also have multi agency representatives
working together throughout Pride weekend.
This well-established multi agency
approach monitors numbers of people
coming into the city as part of a much
wider ranging safety remit.]

They are very upset,
The Manager of Pride
said he did not expect this.

[Concerns have been raised about
the serious travel disruption to train services
due to the overtime ban by rail workers.
Commenting on GTR’s decision not to run any trains
into Brighton station
on Saturday 5 August, Paul Kemp,
managing director of Pride, said:
“We are deeply disappointed GTR has
announced no trains will run to Brighton
on the Saturday of Pride weekend cutting
off Brighton & Hove from the rest of the
UK rail network on such an important
weekend for our city.”]

[Brighton Kemptown MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle
has today launched a petition
saying Govia Thameslink Railway will
not run any trains south of
Three Bridges on the
Brighton Mainline on Saturday, 5 August.
He says GTR is claiming it can’t get
the extra drivers it needs to boost services
on the line because of an overtime ban
by Aslef union, which represents
train drivers – and so has instead just
cancelled them all.

The Southern Rail and Thameslink websites
currently say they will provide further information
about trains on that day at a later date.
GTR has been contacted for comment.]
