I left work at 17.40 tonight and I just arrived home at 21.40. It has taken me 4 hours to get home, on a journey that should take just over an hour. The tube stopped in the tunnel just before my stop at approx 18.15. There was a power failure and the driver had no idea what was going on. He got off the train twice to use the phone but to no avail. The last we heard from him he said that there "may be an emergency situation at the next station or the one before".
After not hearing from him for about half an hour, I was designated to pull the emergency alarm. Lol. Not everyone was pleased because of the high pitch noise it made that we couldn't turn off. A couple of us walked down to the drivers carriage to find out what was going on, only to find that the driver had got off the train and walked it to the next station, leaving us all behind, without even informing us! It was a good job nobody had really been taken ill!
Eventually he returned, and after one and a half hours, we were ushered out of the back of the train carriage, and had to walk for 15 mins in near darkness on a narrow ledge, back to the previous station.
We then had to get rail replacement buses to somewhere on the opposite side of the river, and then transfer onto the DLR to get back near home. When I got back, the bus did not turn up (they only run every 20 mins at this time of night. I vented my anger at the bus supervisor and he stood agog. Lol.
I had to walk to get another bus, and then my bus stop was closed due to roadworks and the driver sailed past it. At this point I lost my rag real time, and he decided to stop and let me off before the next stop. Lol.
The transport in London just gets worse!
Rant over.
