Default Is quality British-made TV doomed?

According to today's Yorkshire Post a new report has been published that puts future of TV under the microscope.

It looks at what drives programme production and how programmes are judge to be a success. It states that some successful programmes like "fools and horses" would never get made or if they did they would only last one series because of poor rating. It also said that the day of the Documentary are almost at a end because of high production costs and low audience numbers.

It points out that BBC has only operated at it's best when it had competition and the same goes for ITV. These companies have also most stop competing in the area's of Drama and Comedy. While they did compete the quality of the programmes were better.

It is clear that popular soaps like Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Eastenders, along with reality TV shows like Big Brother, and X-factor will continue in the future as long as they make money. However, OFCOM has warned that money spent on British-made sitcoms, children's programming, current affairs, films and one-off dramas could fall over the coming years as the TV companies buy in cheaper programs from overseas.

So what I want to know is, "do we think the quality British-made TV doomed over the coming years?"
