All we can do literally, is keep our fingers crossed on conscription. I know the effect being called up for the 2nd world war had on my Dad and it was eye opening. The interesting thing is that he never talked about it until he was old, when he realised how much of his youth had been taken from him and how little peoples sacrifice actually mattered
