I suppose your 'happy self' will only come back with time, if at all. You can't force emotions upon yourself, and essentially you can't change your personality, i.e. being argumentative.
It's just something you need to let play out, and not try and find a solution for because from past experience, when I've felt down [which still happens now for no reason whatsoever, the smallest thing can trigger it] then no happy box would cure it and take me out of that state of mind, as there is no solution to emotions being all over the place.
Don't force 'happy Conor' upon yourself, if 'argumentative, irritable Conor' is how you're feeling, and is how your emotions are forcing you to behave, then trying to counteract them with 'happy thoughts' is only going to make it worse in the long run IMO. Because then, your emotions will be definatly all over the place, and it's then when the 'happy Conor' will never be back, because you've gotten yourself to a point where 'happy Conor' is forced and something you can switch on for a couple of hours a day.
I think the best advice anybody can give you is to basically get on with it, and just try and enjoy your life as best as you can without putting on a pretence. Talking to friends/family won't help in regards to getting back to your old self, but it will make you feel better when you do feel like you need to explode ... I, deal with that differently, because mine turns into anger a lot, and the majority of the time I 'explode' by punching a wall ... it's basically depends on how you deal with it, and you said you cry a lot, so perhaps having a family member or friend to comfort is what you need. I'd just get more irritated and wound up if someone tried to comfort me, as I like to be left alone, but from what I know of you, I think you're someone who'd benefit from talking, and getting everything off your chest ... though at the same time just try to relax, enjoy life as best as you can and take it day as it comes.
