Big Brother has been on air for ten years, and it seems this year Big Brother is going back to it's roots.
I've noticed that this year some of the larger more popular versions of Big Brother are returning to a more "back to basics" style with less big twists and instead allowing the housemates be themselves. Last year in UK, we had a BB full of gimmicks and so many twists and it ruined the series. it was so hard to get the know he housemates because we were meeting new ones every two weeks. This year BB seems to have taken a back seat, IMO and besides from the 'zero tolerance' and the divide (which we saw in BB3) I think this years BB has resembled one of the earlier BB rather then BB7-onwards. Also in USA, they have also returned to having complete strangers in the house rather then couples/relatives etc, which they have had since BB4. The producers have even commented on the "back to basics" style and it's rumored that this series the public will chose the winner. The winner of BBUSA has not been chosen by the public since the first series back in 2000. BB Australia has experimented with outrageous twists, and celebrity guests for the past two series now in order to increase ratings. But it failed. Looking at fourms, it looks like the BBAU fans are calling out for a back to basics BB. The channel that airs BBAU axed the show this year, but other networks may pick it up and air it next year and one network considering it have been quoted as saying "it needs to go back to basics in order to survive". I think people have grown up with Big Brother now, and are now too familiar with the outragous stunts and are always trying to second guess BB. It would seem now returning back to basics, is the biggest twist of all. |
