Konami has registered the title Metal Gear Solid: Existence with the Japanese Trademark database, sparking rumours that it will be the name of the next entry in the series.
Metal Gear Solid 4 brought Solid Snake’s story to a close, but the information revealed by gaming site Siliconera suggests that Konami is not ready to turn its back on the franchise yet.
Fan speculation that the leaked title refers to a prequel remains unconfirmed, but more details are expected to be revealed at this year's Tokyo Game Show between October 9 and 12.
