Default Special BAFTA for Chuckle Brothers

Quote:
Special BAFTA for Chuckle Brothers
ROTHERHAM'S very own Chuckle Brothers were honoured for decades of TV entertainment when they were presented with a special award at the Children's BAFTAs.
A host of stars turned out for the red carpet do at London's Hilton Hotel, including celebrities from Rachel Stevens to Dannii Minogue.

Much of the talk was about Strictly Come Dancing and the X Factor but it was the ageing slapstick duo, Paul and Barry Chuckle, who took the top honour.

Speaking before the show, the brothers from Rotherham, said: "It's like a pat on the back from the business that we've been working in all these years, it's a really nice, warm feeling.

"It's 45 years since we began as a professional double act and before that we were performing for friends and family in the backyard."

Paul, 61, and Barry, 63, said they did sometimes fall out for 10 minutes at a time but it was quickly forgotten.

Greeting the pair excitedly, Keith Chegwin said: "I'm going to take responsibility for getting them a BAFTA because when I was at the party to nominate who I think are the funniest people in television I said the Chuckle Brothers."

Chegwin, who presented the show, said they were "blooming fantastic".

The pair, who won New Faces in 1974, collected their gong from Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies.

Other stars included Britain's Got Talent break dancing sensation George Sampson, 15, and Bond girl Gemma Arterton. Award winners included Wall-E, for best feature film, and Lego Batman, for best video game.

International phenomena Hannah Montana won the Kids vote decided by children aged seven to 14.
