DAVINA McCall has admitted what everyone has been hoping for: Big Brother is being axed.
The Channel 4 reality show’s most loyal cheerleader and longtime host predicts that next year will be the last-ever series. Davina, 41, who returns to host BB10 on June 4, admitted: “It’s definitely only got two years left.” Channel 4’s three-year £180million deal, runs out next year and critics say it has definitely lost its spark. Last year’s Big Brother final had the LOWEST audience out of the show’s nine series, with a peak of 5.1million viewers watching Rachel Rice’s win. Davina, who has been host since show’s launch in 2000, added: “It’s become an institution — the summer is all about Big Brother, just like winter is all about the X Factor.” The mum of two is believed to be looking for a new, more serious TV project to boost her career and has been linked with ITV1’s This Morning following the decision of presenter Fern Britton to quit. Contestants for the new Big Brother series are still being selected. For the first time, the show will not be streamed live from the house in Elstree, Herts. An insider said: “It is a cost-cutting measure.” C4 plans to show a tribute to Big Brother 3 star Jade Goody. E4 will screen a documentary about her before the new series starts. The Sun |
