Default CS spray drama at Portsmouth school - IN MY SCHOOL!

Three children were taken to hospital after a teenager discharged a CS spray cannister in a Portsmouth school classroom today.
Witnesses said the boy took the spray out from under a coat and discharged it at MiltonCross School, Milton.

The incident happened just after midday in a Year 11 maths class, and 20 pupils had to be evacuated.

Three girls were taken to the drop-in centre at St Mary's Hospital, just yards from the school itself.

Shona Lancaster, 16, from Moorings Way, Milton, who was targeted with the spray, said: 'It was horrible, my eyes were streaming and my throat was hurting.'

Michelle Ullett, spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service, said: 'We were called to the scene at 12.14pm after there were reports of CS gas being discharged in a room containing 20 people.

'Three ambulances attended as well as an ambulance officer, and three children were taken to St Mary's as a precaution.'

Peter Laggan, business director at the school, said: 'A student brought a small personal defence CS gas spray into school, unknown to staff, and sprayed it into the air during a lesson.

'Students began coughing and suffering from streaming eyes and skin irritation. The teacher immediately evacuated the class into the playground and the school called the emergency services. Paramedics examined the children.

'Three went to St Mary's Hospital to be checked further, because they had breathing difficulties and skin irritation.

'All parents of children in the class were phoned as soon as possible and told what had happened.

'Police arrived at the scene and arrested a student.'
