I dont know what Noirin depends on her family & friends for, but if you we're not a tad bias, would you not assume she depends on them for comfort in harsh situations?, help in coming to hard decisions? that kind of thing?

I don't want to put words in your mouth but just in case, let me just say Comfort is not the same as protection.

If Noirin did tell Marcus, she is Protected by family & friends, which i doubt, this was not implicit in your original post and i was depending on your original post to understand your point, so please don't extend your original meaning in order to protect your original point.
