MORE than 150 celebritites and volunteers will tonight take part in a live TV charity appeal to boost donations for the victims of the Asia earthquake.
Singer Javine, Big Brother contestant Makosi, Apprentice contestant Saira Khan and Coronation Street star Chris Bisson will man the phones at the BT Tower in central London for six hours for the special cross-channel launch at 6pm.
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) announced that £2million donated by the public in the first 24 hours of the appeal.
But they hope to boost the public response to match that in the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami tragedy.
Britain's response to the earthquake which has left 35,000 feared dead and two million homeless continued to gather pace as the Government pledged an extra £10million in aid.
An Oxfam aid flight will set off for Pakistan from Kent today while UK
Government supplies were due to be sent from Dubai.
A spokesman for the Department for International Development said a UK relief flight would be bringing supplies from a base in Dubai this afternoon.
A group of British doctors were due to arrive today with enough medicine for 8,000 people.
MAKE a donation to the DEC Asia Quake Appeal at 0870 6060 900 or at www.dec.org.uk and all high street banks and post offices.
Cheques made payable to DEC Asia Quake can be sent by post to: DEC Asia Quake Appeal, PO Box 999, London, EC3A 3AA.
