Big Brother star in court for causing car crash that killed pedestrian

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Big Brother star Alex Sibley appeared in court today to face a careless driving charge after a 63 year-old man was killed in a car crash.

But the case at Barking Magistrates Court, east London, was adjourned when Sibley's defence team asked for more time to examine new expert evidence.

The court was told Sibley, 26, of Woolwich, south-east London, was driving his silver BMW 528 in Romford on November 20 last year when he was in collision with Kurt Lange, a butcher, as he crossed the road.

Prosecutor Graham Partridge said: "At about 4.45pm there was a road traffic accident on Balgores Lane, Romford. A pedestrian, a gentleman in his 60s, had been visiting his mother in law at her home on that road.

"He had parked his car in a lay-by on the opposite side of the road to where she lived. He came out of her house and crossed the road to get to the car. He was almost on the other side when a car collided with him.

"The accident was witnessed by his mother-in-law Mrs Worcester, who was standing by her door.

"Mr Sibley said he was aware of something colliding with his car, but it wasn't until he stopped and got out that he realised he had been in collision with a pedestrian."

At the time Sibley, who appeared in Big Brother 3 in 2002, was believed to be on his way to visit his girlfriend Melanie Hill, who starred in the first Big Brother.

Sibley's barrister Neil King asked for an adjournment claiming an traffic expert's evidence had only been provided to him yesterday by the prosecution and he needed more time to for defence experts to consider it.

Bench chairman Anthony King agreed to the delay saying: "This is very regrettable, but we have no choice but to adjourn. There are many people involved in this case and we don't feel it would be appropriate to hear parts of the trial now and part later."

The two day trial will now begin on March 2 next year

Alex 'snaps at snapper'

FORMER Big Brother star Alex Sibley had some big bovver at court yesterday.

A photographer alleged that Sibley, 26, kicked him on the ankle when he tried to snap him outside.

The ex-BB3 star had appeared before magistrates in Barking, East London, accused of careless driving.

The case, which follows the death of pedestrian Kurt Lange, 63, was adjourned until March.

An onlooker outside the court said: “Alex started kicking out like a big schoolgirl.

“One of the press photographers ended up with quite a badly-cut ankle.”
