Microsoft has put a price on MSN Messenger 5. There will be a special version only available to subscriber's of Microsoft's MSN 8 Service, a paid subscriber service. Microsoft plans to release MSN Messenger 5, and MSN 8 at the same time. It could be happening as soon as October, when Microsoft will release the two versions of MSN Messenger, along with MSN 8. Users not subscribing to MSN 8 can use a cut-down MSN Messenger with less features. There are also exclusive features for Windows XP users.
MSN 8 Subscribers which receive the beefed up MSN Messenger 5, will have enhanced parental controls. It is said the Parental Controls would be set on the server, and would still apply if the same child logged on using the same screen name on another machine. Parental Controls will not be available in the standard MSN Messenger 5.
Users of the Stand-Alone version of MSN Messenger 5 will have a customized version of MSN Today. You can share Hotmail and Messenger contacts, as well as a improved address book. To encourage users to use XP, Microsoft has given XP user's it's own exclusives.
